UMM, Because the economy is bad and the dealer needs more money?I have a trip planned and I am gonna hit 2500 right in the middle of the trip. Are they wanting to change it so early to get all the break in junk that was left over from the 1st change? Nope, they're trying to dig deeper into your wallet. Just wondered if it was a big deal to go over the miles a bit. I know synthetic is supposed to increase the life of the oil. Kind of confused. Some guys will tell you to change every 3000, your manual says 5000, good synthetics should go 7500, no sweat, it's really up to what makes you feel comfortable.

Thanks for the input. Enjoy the ride...
Just say no!

I'm surprised they didn't say every 500 miles. Read your owners manual, it's every 5k after your 1k mile service.

Sounds like they're trying to take you to the cleaners. A lot of folks on here change their own more often but 5000 is the official scoop.

Glad I asked. Enjoy the ride...
Unreal.. my local guys told me every 5K with the synthetic, although I am going to bring her in after 4K so that I can swap my tranny to RP 85/140 - want to let everything settle in before going to the heavy stuff. It is good to know that there are actually some people out there speaking the truth, and it is also good to know that a resource like this forum exists so that those of us, who are not in the know, have some protection. Can you imagine what was going on in the dealerships before the internet?!?

Syn 3 is over priced and not rated very well to boot, use synthetic mobil 1 or Amsoil and change it at around 5000 miles you'll be fine. there are as many opinions about this as there are people on this site, a good synthetic and filter should go 5k easy. Also, changing the oil is simple learn how and save the $$ on service.....

Brought my 2009 FLHX in for the 1000 mile service (free with purchase of bike) at around 1000 miles. Had the delaer put HD non synthetic oil in as I like to let the bike break in a little before going with synthetics. Rode local for about 500 miles then rode from Arkansas to Atlanta to Md to NY. Brought bike in for fluid change at around 4400 miles. Had Mobil 1, Redline Shockproof and HD primary put in. Don't plan to change fluids again until 10,000 miles.

Prior to the FLHX I had a 2005 FXDI that I bought new. Traded it 4 years later with 45,000 miles. Used Mobil 1, Redline Shockproof and HD primary fluid. Changed fluids every 5k miles (give or take a few hundred miles). Never had a problem with the FXDI. Ran as good or better than when I got it.
