I get my allen head screws from a local hardware store that has a pretty decent fastener stock. I tried clevis pins from them but i prefered the snugness of the u-nut and allen screw.

As far as worrying about them slipping off, i don't. I accidentally put one on backwards. so that the nut portion was facing the bag, and it took me 20 minutes to get the thing off. They clip on pretty tight, and have little tangs that stop them from coming off.

Tinnerman nut is the right term. Not U bolt. http://www.tinnerman.com/en/company/history.asp

My local Ace Hardware has a big assortment of bolts & nuts of all types, chrome allen drive, stainless steel, etc. It's a good place - much better than Home Depot. you could get the Tinnerman nuts there and not for an outrageous Harley dealer price but reasonable.

Lowes has a much better selection of hardware than Home Depot. Stainless too.
