Default Can't get the tip in the hole

Hey guys,

I am kind of new at doing all my maintenace. This week I took down the fairing on my UC 08 to get to the grease port in the stearing column. Bought I grease gun at Harbour Freight tools. When I put the tip on the grease recepticle it would not fully cover it and I ended up with a lot of grease not going in.

I bought the maintenace DVDs that sells on the internet and they show this step and it seems the tip of the gun covered the grease port completely. I was at the dealer and a mechanic told me the tip has like a half moon indentation that I need to work around the grease receptacle but I went home and I only see a complete cricle on the tip. Could it be that my grease gun came with a non-standard size tip? Are there different size tips for grease guns? Thanks

check the tip.. they screw in and out on the outside diameter making them bigger and smaller.. yours could be screwed in enuff to be too small to get over the fitting correctly. Also while you have the fairing off put a 90 or 45 degree fitting in place of the straight one and you wont have to pull the fairing ever again to grease the bearings . Other than that unless you have a complete junk grease gun (and they do sell them ) id maybe go to the auto parts store and get good one (sears works too) ..

Timely topic - just on my way to buy a new grease gun. Will the ones with the flexible hose work ok?

That's one of the most attention-getting headings I've seen in a while.

Yes thats the best kind... I tend to shy away from the solid hoses as they limit your mobility when trying to GET ON (there thats for the other guy ) the fitting properly.. If the gun you buy has the adjustable end on it like most of them do dont be afraid to put it on the grease zerk then spin the thing to tighten it down while you shoot the grease in. You will also have to loosen it to release it but hell its just a little more time...

Yeah, this topic might be almost as attention getting as the question about Dick-Locks not too long ago.
