I dont think it looks bad, and if it serves the purpose at a savings of 600+ dollars then definitely worth. Money that can be put to use elsewhere!

My best riding Bud has had one on his Standard for 3 years and it's held up better than I ever thought it would. Still looks and works great. Pretty good bang for the buck if you're on a budget.

If you forget the cost of the detach mount etc for a minute.

A HD tourpak for like a Street Glide is 724.95 alone. The backrest that you have to buy separately is 209.95. Does it comes with locks and hinges? Prob not.

So basically to buy the HD solution it costs somewhere around $1000 for the friggin box. Thats 1000 bucks to carry my shoes or underwear or whatever... Thats more than I pay for my personal luggage for travel and I'm a professional traveler.

You could buy like 9 Mutazu VIP packs for 1000 bucks.

Yes they are not as heafty as the HD version but they work very very well and don't look half bad. I've used one for 3 years and countless rallies with the wife leaning on it. Not one problem. Ever!

I have a king tourpak that came with my Ultra. It is heavy as hell and only holds a few items more. I prefer the VIP because it weighs nothing, holds near the same and is easy to take off and on. Furthermore you can't help banging stuff up taking it off and on. With the VIP it's like wow I just scratched it......so what? Try that with your 1000 buck king tourpak.

In the case of the VIP tourpak, you get way way way more than you pay for. You get nearly the same functionality for 1/10th the price.

Just sayin.

I bought one a year or so ago and have already got my money out of it. I've used it maybe 3 or 4 times on trips. Holds enough for me. One thing I am going to do before I use it again is make a 1/8" steel plate to mount to the floor of it. I think it will keep it more rigid.

Here it is on my bike. Bad pic, but you get the idea. I use it in the solo position.

I have one in vivid black with the luggage rack on top, paint is actually ok. I think it looks better than a factory tour pak on my road glide, looks kind of "sporty" so i never got a factory tour pak even when a friend offered to sell me his color matched Ultra Classic(with speakers and backrest)tour pak for $450!. I have it on a detachable tour pak mount and use it maybe a few times a year. You're going to put the lightest items you pack(like clothes) there anyway. They are flimsy and probably wouldn't hold up to long term use, but i went to wal-mart and for less than $20 bought some liquid fiberglass and cloth. I reinforced part of the bottom, the back and sides. It's very rigid and tough now. The optional top rack can hold another bag without stressing the tour pack this way, the top is stronger than the sides and needs no reinforcing. Oh, the "passenger backrest" has about the same softness qualities as a brick. Ol lady just stuffs a throw pillow behind her and it's ok.

Thanks for all the replies. I have to say I'm gonna go with one of these after hearing from all of you that have them. the price is so cheap that even if it lasts just a few trips it'll be fine. I like the idea of reinforcing with the fiberglass and steel plates like some have mentioned. I figure one of these on a detachable mount with a luggage rack will work out nicely for what I need.

I installed one on a buddy of mines. He ordered the updated wrap around back rest with it. For the money it is a good product. He has had it for around a year and a half he loves it.
