I had allstate for about 15 years. They were fine on auto claims for me. I had work done at good shops that used good parts and any issue with reimbursement was handled between the shops and allstate. I had one case where I drove into their quote garage and they cut a check on the spot (their number matched the estimate I got from my shop for a proper repair). I had the repair done by a buddy for much cheaper. I switched because my agent gave me bad advice a few times, so I left him. In doing so, I was quoted cheaper by another insurer.

Since that time, my great new agent (7 years) had become less available and I was dealing with people on an 800 number, so I just changed agents again (although this time kept my same insurer).

I think having a live agent that will represent you is very important.

i swapped from Progressive to Allstate several yrs back, much cheaper than anyone else. of course, they have discounts for Exp Rider Course, AMA, and number of yrs riding. been a good experience so far.

I dont see anyone from Calif chiming in. I have allstate, they seem ok and reasonable. Ive never had to make a claim but they did just drop my premium $75 a year. Someone mentioned earlier about a $44 shop rate and Allstate only paid $40, here in Cali the labor rate is $110.

I have Allstate and I live in CA. Have had them since waaaay back in the 80s. Never had a claim till last Oct. I hit a bear and they had no trouble paying the shops quote. Paid to me and I spent it as I saw fit.

As far as the insurance for several years I had my motorcycle insurance with State Farm even though my wife was an Allstate employee because of the rates. About 3 or four years ago I switched the bike to Allstate because they have become very aggressive about going after the motorcycle business and their rates reflect that.
Don't know when she retired, but things have changed dramatically. I have a retired claims adjuster as a patient and he retired because of how things had changed. Allstate adjusters are absolutely the most difficult to deal with at the moment. Wasn't always that way, but it is now. We see it all the time. A close friend who owns a body shop tells me it is the same for him as well.

Think will hear good and bad about most any insurance company.. Had Allstate for lots of years on my Vehicles with a couple claims with no problems.. Had used Progressive for the past 5 years until Allstate has made a significant drop in their quote for the Bike and for now am trying them...
