Just put masking tape over the spot you're going to drill. It will keep the drill bit from slipping and scratching the chrome.

1953, my wife said the samething. She gained that much room, she is going to try to deal with it, but at the sametime also said something about the the rail to hitting her leg.

I bought a set off E-bay, brand new still in the box for $125 delivered before our trip a couple of weeks ago. We rode 3500 miles round trip in 10 days. Not once did she complain about the bars hitting the back of her legs after the change.
FYI, the p/n 49087-01 is the guard that is not drilled for the bars that go around the bags, while p/n 49088-01 is drilled for the bars.

Default Rear Crash/bag guards

I happened to see those angled rear bag guards on a full accessorized 2010 Ultra Limited and Ultra at the dealer show for info. Might be in the new P&A book for 2010 ??????
