Question how to change my derby cover???????

Hey guys.....This is probably a stupid question, but is changing my derby cover from the stock one to a new aftermarket cover simply a matter of unscrewing the bolts and putting the new cover on? Or is there more to it than that?

It is indeed more than that. Your stock cover has a silicone o-ring in a groove in the cover. The aftermarket covers have no groove. I had to run to the parts store and make a gasket out of felpro paper. No big deal, dosnt leak either.

I have an 06 and yes it was that simple, I even ended up returning the gasket that I had bought. I just left the factory one on there it was like new. So far so good...

oh its a pain alright.....you need to put a stand under the derby cover and remove the bike from it...then bolt the bike to the new one,,,,takes about 10 bikers to do the job properly....oh yeah...and about 4 cases of beer too!!

really its easy...

I believe the switch may void your warranty.

I put mine up on a stand so the bike is level, then remove the cover and check the gaskit I always like to change that out anytime I remove the old cover that is just me, then put the new cover back on. Just one thing just do not over tighten you could strip out the threads. Takes about 15 to 20 min max. Good Luck

you can buy a flat pancake gasket at HD where you get the cover. it's basically removing screws, put new gasket on new derby cover, start all screws and tighten them up. (like a patter like you do when you put a wheel on your truck). it's about a 1 beer job if you don't take any breaks.....of course you could take more beer breaks....depends on what else you have going on at the time.
