Sturgis RV info
Hey Guys and Girls:
We are thinking of taking our RV out to Sturgis this year (we may have open space in our inclosed trailer btw.....) from New Hampshire.
Having never been, can we get some recommendations on Great RV places?
Our preferences are:
nice place - upscale
Great views if possible
safe
Are there places you can walk to town (not that we will be drinking hard......)

There are, I think, 4 KOA's in the area. I like Mt Rushmore KOA because of it's location and proximity to the sights. It's also a great ride to Sturgis, from there. Right through Deadwood. We've used Custer too. Make that 5 in the area.

Right outside of Spearfish
This one is a newer one - about 5 years old or so.

It is right outside of Spearfish, about 20 miles from Sturgis - all interstate, or 27 miles on non interstate roads - two and four lane. It is about 10 miles from Deadwood. I have never stayed there, just ridden / driven past it when in the area. I stay in Deadwood myself - non camping.

Elkhorn Ridge RV Park is where we were recommended to stay. We are staying here for the week. I believe they still have availablility. It will be our 1st trip to Sturgis as well.
I did speak with a very nice owner of the KOA in Spearfish and she is taking reservations on a waiting list. As someone cancels she will advise you. They may have an open site as well. We would have stayed there, but we had a pretty big deposit down on the Elkhorn Ridge reservation.
Hope you find a nice place to stay and enjoy the week in Sturgis.

If you want to trailer your bike that is up to you, but I can tell you that you are missing a trip of a life time that can not be had when the bike is in the trailer. I went to Sturgis in 2006 and rode from CT which is not that much closer then NH. I even went to MD first to meet up with my Dad, brother, uncle and a few others. When people talk about trailering their bikes I am reminded of a few saying on helmet stickers:
-Trailering it to the destination doesn't count as a journey
-I rode my bike to the great American trailer rally
-Silly Yuppie, trailers are for boats
When we went we stayed at The Fish and Fry. 20 minute ride into sturgis, and fairly quiet at night. We shipped our camping gear to the campground and then shipped it back when we left. I have also stayed at the MT Rushmore KOA, it is a very nice place, but I was there in September after bike week.
