Default Best route from Natchez to Memphis?

I will be going from Natchez to Memphis next week. We were thinking about taking the Trace for a ways but then cutting over to SR-1. Is this the best route? If not what is better? How long will it take? Thanks, T.

The Trace is a nice pretty ride but the speed limit is 50 and stricly enforced. Another option is to take Hwy 61, it will take you up through the Delta all the way to Memphis; lots of history, the birthplace of soul and rock and roll. You can take the trace to Clinton or 61 up to Vicksburg, another nice place to visit, then I-20 to Jackson and up to Memphis on I-55.

Appreciate the input. I don't want to take the trace all the way to the end as we are going to Memphis and from there up to Branson. Then ride 2 days in Ark. themn back to Texas. T.

HWY 78 to Tupelo, catch the trace there and straight into Natchez. Beautiful ride. As mentioned below 50MPH speed limit. Mostly can get away with 60 - 65. Or take I-55 to Jackson, about 200 r so miles and catch the trace there on into Natchez. A couple of hours r so from Jackson on into Natchez

I think you'll get bored on the Trace. Rode it from Nashville down to Lawrenceburg last week and that was far enough for me. Just my opinion. I would ride up to Vicksburg and take in the history there and then head to Jackson and take I-55.

The Trace is great riding if your not in a hurry,if you take it,obey the speed limit you don't want a ticket on the Natchez Trace.

Wrong side of the state Stamper...

Wife and I have ridden this many times. This is what we'd do;

Hwy 61 from Natchez, Vicksburg, Clarksdale, Tunica, Memphis.

Lunch - Old Country Store (over 100 years old) Lorman Ms

Vicksburg - Vicksburg Military Park, Casino's

Onward - Where Teddy Roosevelt supposedly came up with Teddy Bear

Clarksdale - Morgan Freeman has a blue's club (good time).

Tunica - Casino's

Hwy 61 for the most part good roads, mostly 4 lane w/65 mph speed limit.

Take a left at Onward over to Hwy 1. Oxbow lakes, Ms River (don't miss the new bridge in Greenville)

Greenville - Doe's (as in deer) Steakhouse. Best steak in the south.

Natchez Trace - Boring after a few miles. Makes me sleepy.

If you're interested and need more info, pm me. Be glad to help.
