How does the throttle by wire setup affect a grip change? My service manual hasn't shown up and I don't want to start prying on stuff.

I am sure some others with more info than I have will chime in but from what I have read its a 20 minute job and very simple. I am pretty sure you just have to remove a couple screws and slide the old ones off/slide the new ones on.

It'll just about take you longer to open the package that the grips come in than to change them. I was nervous about doing mine because of the TBW but it ended up being about a 10 minute job. It does get a little hairy when you're pulling apart the throttle side block and tugging on that old grip through. There was a thread on here that I read over to reinforce my confidence. Try a search. Here are Avons I used.

It is an easy job. No throttle cable ferrules to deal with. The HD grips come with easy to follow instructions.

this is great information, i like and am using the coke bottle grips, i think harley calls them the nostalgic grips, black rubber with the chrome band. very comfortable. although birds were pecking at them one morning as it was parked in the front yard getting ready to go riding. so am gonna replace them with the same type. thanks, thought it was gonna be sorta involved.

I put a set of nostalgic grips on my throttle by wire 08 Road King. (Pics in profile.)Piece of cake. I love the way the look and the feel of the curved grips.

Go for it!

My understanding, and from what I have seen, specific grips for TBW DO have to be purchased.

Yes there are different part numbers for TBW grips....so they must be different somehow.
