All of the HD dealers in my area charge 90 to 95 per hour and if you buy the old and gaskets and do it your self it will cost you about 80 bucks. If they do the 1 K service the way it should be done ( about 3 hours of work ) then its a good deal. However with the self adjusting primary chain and a lot of bikes don't have spokes then two hours should do the job. And with my old math that works out to 270 plus shop supplies. I always do my own service because then i know it was done right and it is not that hard. If you have never done one then buy the shop manual for 60 bucks or so and it will walk you through it all. Just don't get into a hurry and check your work as you go and you will be money ahead.

For 1k and syn in all 3 holes, local dealer quoted $420 (Bellevue, WA). Needless to say, I'm taking it to my indy shop, which quoted around $200. I trust my indy more than I trust myself to work on my bikes.

320 here,at a bike shop. h/d filter, amsoil in motor, redline in tranny and drap specialies in primary though. He adjusted the clutch, lubed everything, checked Brakes, tires ,bolts and etc. Really went over whole bike. Harley would have used there oil, which i am not that crazy about. Thats the last one I will pay for ,do it myself from here out.

I was wondering how much this was going to set me back. Mine goes in for the 1,000 mile service on the 15th.

I might be wrong...but with bike sales way down look for parts and labor to go up. My local dealers charge a set fee, about $260.00 for the 1000 mile I think.

Outrageous cash for what you could do in your garage in an afternoon. Buy a service manual it will save you many Benjis.
