I'm surprised he adjusted the clutch pack hot. Its supposed to be cold when you adjust.

You guys are making a science project out of this simple question.

Assuming the basket is adjusted within spec, simply adjust more free play into the cable to make clutch engagement closer to the grip.

Like the OP, I prefer my clutch engagement a bit closer to the grip than the factory setting. I have adjusted my free play to approximately 3/16" (factory spec is 1/16"-1/8") at the clutch cable ferrule and that results in the clutch engagement starting approximately 1/2" off the grip.

Anyone?

Thanks
Just did this yesterday. My clutch was grabbing too far from the grips. I didn't adjust anything under the clutch cover. I just loosened the jam nut on the cable and gave it more slack. I started turning it clockwise at first, but noticed that was taking up slack at the ferrule keeping the grab far from the grip. I then started turning counter clockwise which gave the cable slack and moved the grab point closer to the grip. The downfall of this is the clutch lever may rattle a bit from having more slack than usual. I just kept adjusting until I found a good point of grab that I was satisfied with keeping in mind that it will change a bit when the clutch warms up.
