I don't remember the wire size exactly , but here's some info.
http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm
If the wire size is 16AWG , the near max watts would be around 44.4 watts.
If the wire size is 18AWG , the near max watts would be around 27.6 watts.
This would be at 12 volts.
The stock lamps are about 27 watts.
I use 35 watt Wagner 4415A bulbs and they seem ok.
I don't know about the extra heat though , as mine are sealed beams (all glass) now.
Just thinking out loud....

I have been looking for a silverstar replacement, wondering if upping the wattage will give the same effect.

Default 893 37.5 watt

Ok, here's the tip. After figuring this all out for my 07 RKC, you need the Sylvania Silverstar 893. 37.5 watts. They fit right in, are much brighter and whiter than the stock 27 watts bulb. I've had mine in for 5000 miles and run them ON all the time. Part# 893ST. Any local Autozone store will have them.

Also, the H4 Silverstar in a huge difference and gives all 3 light the same tint.

Default 893 37w

DanM

The 893 has a straight back plug, the stock 881 has a 90 plug.

Will that 893 have room in an AUX LAMP Fixture ???

Thanks

If you use the stock wiring you'll be running 155w total and that will draw 13A plus everything else on that circuit. The fuse is 15A, so you're precariously close to the max on that fuse.

I would install a relay and tap the power from the battery. The trigger circuit would be the old wiring and that would remove the burden from the lighting fuse entirely. You would of course have to install an in-line fuse near the battery connection. I would use 15A on that one too, as you'll only be running about 8A from the two 50w lights. Any standard auto relay will work fine, and they are obtainable at any auto-parts store. I used one on my old RK's passing lamps (32.5w x 2 plus) for years without a problem. I had an 80w low-beam and the two 32.5w lamps were taxing the 15A breaker on that bike, and the relay was the answer.

How do you have them wired?

In the stock configuration they share the circuit with the low beam. A common practice is to put them on the acc circuit so they can be on all the time if wanted.

On mine there is nothing else on the acc circuit except my garmin, so my total amperage with the stock lamps and the Garmin is just over 6 amps on a 15 amp circuit.

I don't know what the wattage is of the low beam, but if you know that and figure you will add about 8 amps for the 100 watt driving lights, I cant imagine that the stock headlight bulb draws more than 5 amps even on high beam.

You are correct DDeFendi, and yes they fit right in with NO issues at all.

I hope this helps. You won't believe the difference.
