In a word, yes. But then I've gotten past the need for lots of horsepower.

I came from two GL1800's owning both the GL1800 and Ultra Classic at the same time. I found I rode the Ultra a lot more then the Wing and thus sold the Wing. But long-distance comfort was the main issue for me. While just over 6ft tall, I have long legs and the Wing was not comfy after a couple hours in the saddle (yes, I had a custom seat and that helped only a little).

These are air-cooled engines...they produce heat and the rider feels it. The definition of "a lot better" is subjective at best. If you really need lots of power and comfortable driving conditions, seriously consider something with four wheels (no disrespect intended).

Renting is really your best choice at this point.

Lots of guys want to get off the bike within the first hour...others at the end of the day. Only you can be the real judge.

Good luck!!!

102 at the wheel aint hard to get.

When you buy a Harley it kinda goes without saying that you are gonna have to spend money making it go right. Its just part of the crazy world of HD.

You dont have to spend $5000 (but it isnt hard), but just spending a few thousand will transform the bike.

Man, how much power do you really need? Wings are good bikes -- I've got a friend who's had one for 20+ years and still rides it every day he can. But, it looks and sounds like a Honda. Nothing wrong with that, but in my opinion it's just not what I wanted in a bike. Heck, just the amount of plastic alone on the Wing bothers me. As others have said, Harleys are just different, and it's not a matter of power. If you want power, go with the Wing. If you want a bike, go with the Ultra.

i went from a vtx 1800 f model and i MISS THE POWER all the time , the honda vtx is a great bike and for the same reason you want one i like the sound / persauna of the harley brand . that being said there is no comparison in power the harley is lacking but you are about to buy a TOURING bike ! there is a compremise afterall . the question you need to ask yourself is do you really need the power if so dont buy a harley unless you are planning on spending extra money for power

My best friend just went from an 1800 VTX with pipes and power commander to a 2000 HD classic. He says he misses the speed and acceleration of the VTX. Does he want to go back?..........No. No offense to Honda or any other Japanese bike owner, but if a Harley speaks to you, then no other bike will do.

Ride the Ultra, and the Wing... Then go with your gut! I'm betting you go with the HD. You know in your heart that's what you've wanted all along.... Just go for it.

I also came from a VTX 1800 ,yes I miss the power and the torque , but its two different kinds of bikes. The Ultra is a good comfortable touring bike and it handles great for almost 900 pounds, the breaks with the abs work well . I bought a 09 in Dec and I just love it. Rent a Ultra you will enjoy the ride. I have a 02 VTX 1800 for sale .
