ABS? Yay or Nay?

i road raced and moto-x for years, i've taken numerous motorcycle riding courses, i've owned a street bike since i was 16 (i'm 44 now) i feel very confident in my braking ability and i practice hard stops routinely.
this is the first abs bike i've had. on a smooth dry road with the knowledge that i'm going to be performing a max braking test i feel i could stop quicker with a non abs bike.
any condition other than the above, ( in other words, any real world riding situation ) i feel abs is an advantage.

My friend Spencer Lagro died June 13, 2008 while trying to avoid an Elk outside of Craig Colorado. He was 55 years old. I can't help but think if he had ABS on his bike he might be with us today. Spencer was a experienced rider with over 30 years on a bike. In a panic stop he locked up both front and rear brakes. The bike skidded and then went sideways then highsided. He died instantly. So don't think you can always stop better with non ABS brakes because you have been riding a long time. My new 08' ultra has them and I have had to use them because of a cagger on a cell phone. Hope this helps you make a wise choice. I miss my friend every day. R.I.P. Spencer.

We all want to think our riding skills will allow us to be better than the computer, but in reality the computer can act faster than our hand eye coordination ever can. Hence, go for the ABS. I have them on my 08 ultra and I am always surprised when the ABS kicks in and I don't have any idea that I am even close to a lock up condition. But I feel better knowing the ABS is there to help keep me safe.
