05 rkc added up the cost of fairing lowers travel pack and paint for it all. went and traded for a new ultra and havent regreted it at all, not to mention all the other goodies i swore id never use and now use all the time like cb intercom vents in the lowers speed sensitive volume control.

I traded my 02 RKC for an 09 SG in March. I have 1300 miles on it and I'm just now getting use to it enough that I don't regret not getting another RKC.

I do like the radio, but I find I turn it off about 50% of the time. I like the bat wing, but it desturbs the air enough that it takes some getting use to. Put lower fairings on the RK and I'm not so sure that it isn't a more comfortable bike on a long ride. What I find I really like about my SG is the 09 handling.

If I had to do over again, I think I would have to flip a coin. As it goes now, I'm going to start looking for a really good deal on a 2nd bike (RK).

I'm another one who loves the convertibility of the RK. I just did a 5 day trip and had the fairing strapped to the tour-pak for the whole time except on the long highway parts. For me it's like having the best of both worlds, good weather protection when needed and that stripped down feeling when desired.

Can't beat this view!

I reckon you should just mod the bike you have. Going to an '00 is a step backward imo.

Thanks for the input. I really like my bike. It only has 22k miles on it and runs perfect. Went down to the dealer last night and visited with a salesman that has always been a good guy. Left after about 2 hours feeling good about keeping my RK. Gonna just save up and get the detachable fairing and tour pack.

I love my street glide but if you have a bike that suits your needs daily and you need a few comfort things to make it perfect...Make it perfect...as far as 6 speed and engine mods...screaming eagle is far from the best...you can get a baker 6 speed and a a S&S hot set-up and smoke the factory 103

I have had two 00 SE RG's, (not sure why I got the 2nd one). They were nice bikes, in fact I rode the HOG Eastern Campaign on the 2nd one which turned out to be 7600 miles and 3 1/2 weeks. The 2000 models used a different injection system than the 01's and later and it is not up to par with the later systems nor is it very adaptable to upgrading power. I also rode the HOG Western Campaign (another 7500 mile ride) on a 02 RK Classic with a 95" build. I liked the 02 better for riding but the 00 RGSE better for storage and the lowers. I now have an 09 SG and had an 06 SG prior, I rode the 06 SG on a HOG Delaware-Oregon and north/south 9000 mile ride summer before last, I liked the 06 SG best so far. I am going to take my 09 SG on the HOG Pony Express ride this Sept and will see how it compares. Your RK is a great bike both for touring AND for "top down" cruising. My 19 yo son has an 07 RKC and its just a beautiful bike, he loves it and likes to cruise "top down" where I rather like a windshield. Again RG's are great if thats what you want but I would stay away from the 00 models. Cheers!!
