how difficult is it to install a chrome inner primary?

I thought it was pretty simple. When the stator blew out on the ultra, I was only a few bolts away from pulling it off anyway. 1/2 and 3/8 torque wrenches, the correct sockets and a service manual you should be set.

Like FXSTDSE2 stated not all that hard as long as you have the service manual and the proper tools. The easy part is taking everything off like the floorboards, shifter, drain the primary oil, remove primary cover, remove primary chain& stator, remove clutch pack, remove belt pully, are you scared yet???? If so you might want to just pay to have it done. Good luck......

It's easy if you have the correct tools. You need large sockets, (can't remember the size) a good torque wrench, you have a primary chain locking tool, or make one, and time. When I did mine I pulled the clutch basket off, and it was cracked badly. Had to get another, which took a few days, since I didn't want to buy the whole unit.
I like doing this easy stuff myself, since I clean all parts better than a hourly rate shop.

Like a lot of things on our Harley = first time is the worst = then, after its done, Ya = I could do that again...
Biggest question - are you comfortable with all the above items???
I changed my FLHTC into a Road Glide = Just R/R - but it took time and like mentioned - Get a Service Manual...
After it is done, you will feel great that you did it... However, if you get half way into it and decide - too tough - then your stuck...
Think it through BEFORE you start..
