Default Can cruise be added to a 2000 RK

I have a 2000 RK Classic and love my bike but would really like to have cruise control. Went to my stealer and they said there was no kit available for cruise control on that year. However it seems like I read somewhere at one time that a special conversion was available. Anyone know anything about this? Anyone done this?? Thanks in advance.

+1 for Cruisemount. Dave, the owner, is a nice retired guy who probably knows more about HD cruise control than anyone you are likely to talk to at MOCO.

Check-out his website; he has very specific information about fitment to older touring models. You'll use a current, not an obsolete, HD cruise control unit for you '00 bike.

Dave at Cruisemount added it to mine, 'course I only live 100 miles away, so it was easy to get it to him. The main thing is whether he has a cable that will interface with your bike and the HD cruise. Since he's done mine, which was why he wanted the bike to photograph the installation, I assume he has the cable kit to fit yours. All I've got to say is it sure is nice to have, and since it is the HD cruise, it works great with the bike, just like the one in your cage.

When I wanted cruise control for my '04 police EG I contacted Dave. He didn't have a harness for my bike, but was visiting Georgia over the Thanksgiving holiday in '06, and came with a harness he'd fabbed (but without cutting the wires to length) and used my bike as the prototype for other police EG's, cutting the wires to the appropriate length and taking copious notes and pics. Very professional installation and, like I said in my earlier post, very nice man.

It might work, Tzz, but if you want a security blanket, I'd contact Dave instead. Should something go wrong with the installation, you'll have one of the most knowledgeable (if not the most) guys available to help with your cruise installation. You can buy the HD cruise from Chicago HD or Zanotti's and get a 20% discount. Dave will tell you exactly what you need to order. JMHO.

Be sure to ask them what the part number is for the cruise control module they include in their kit. Bike's your age require a module with a -99 suffix IIRC which is an obsolete part. Frankly, given their price of $440 for the module, idle cable, etc., and since list price on the cruise control kit from HD for Road King's (pre-'08 model year) is $339.95, it's a virtual certainty that they are supplying an obsolete part of uncertain reliability 'cause they ain't HD or an HD dealer.

Good luck with your project.
