Yeah that doesn't sound right. My '09 RK uses ZERO oil and never has used any even during the break-in period. It's got 12,000 miles on it now.

My '05 EGC used about 1.5 quarts between 5k oil changes but i know that year had issues with valve guide seals or whatever so never got around to fixing those.

my 08 sg has 14k on it, and doesn't use any. i'd be back to the dealer, might be something like valve seals or oil rings, which would most likely make it smoke a bit. check the inside of your right side exhaust, but rather than self diagnosis, i'd be taking it to the dealer, and telling them about the problem. that's unacceptable oil usage. any seeping around head gaskets, or base gaskets? best get it fixed while it's free.

Thanks for the info guys. I just went over 5,000 miles, so I'm going to do the 5,000 mile service this weekend and let it run for another 1,000. If there is any oil loss then, I'll take it in.

Thanks,
Rick

Anyone else experience this with their 09's

I have an 08 which was using oil from day one. In the first 840 miles I used nearly
1 3/4 qts of oil. I brought the bike in and they claim they noticed the rear plug was wet
with oil. So, they decided to replace the valve seals and at the same time do the
campaign for the 110 engine.

I have gotten it back and finding this after the fix...

After riding the bike home I checked the oil and it read 7 on the stick.
Just took the bike out today and rode 44 miles, returned and checked the oil after
letting it sit for 20 mins and it read 6 on the stick.

My latest results are that I now have 1950 miles on bike. I had the bike in for the 1000 a bit early and the put new oil in and it was at the 7X on the stick. I have used 1/2 to 3/4 in 1100 miles. I am dealing with Harley now. As I said they consider 1qt in a 1000 miles normal. I think I'll need my attorney on this one.

Try taking it to a different dealer and see if you can get some better service. That's absurd if you ask me, IE; NOT normal to use a quart in 1,000 miles!

how do your spark plugs look? if you've got no leaks from gaskets, the oil has to be going somewhere. my 08 used a little when it was new, then at about 5k miles, the power came up, the heat came down, and it smoothed out. you might want to discuss it with the service manager and see how to handle the issue.

I loose about a 1/2 qt every 2500 miles (on my 08) Dealer says that is normal. I think it depends a lot how you ride, temperature etc.

I just finished a 5200 mile run to the west coast and didn't use a drop of oil... that was I 80 @75 ---85 mph. My bike has 8400 miles on it and I have not had to add oil between changes.....

Mine used about 3/4 quart in the 4k miles between the 1k and 5k changes. Now on Amzoil we'll see what happens, kinda disapointing though I'm carring a qt. on long trips with a brand new scoot
