Default Has anyone installed a FRONT brace?

Has anyone used the trilink FRONT stabilizer for flh models?. My 98 Road King front end... shimmies?... especially if you hit the rear brakes . I am installing a progessive touring link at the rear . But being that if you brake hard with JUST the rear brakes the front end shakes , leading me to believe there is 2 problems going on at once . anyhow has anyone used this product ? http://www.alloyart.com/products/trilink.html also if anyone has tried the steering damper for Harley touring models http://www.bkrider.com (search steering damper) Please let me know your opinion on either of these products. I know the Road King isnt a roadracer . I have a Buell XB12R Firebolt worked to the hilt for racing. (88ci kit, NRHS,ss Drummer custon race exhaust, factory adjusable tuner, wisco forged pistons, roller rockers ect ect) BUT I am putting in JIMS 131 motor in it and would like the chassis to be able to handle the horsepower to some degree so any info would be much appriciated .. thank You Jake

I fitted the progressive rear stabilizer on my 07 flht and its tightend up the rear end with no extra vibes or rear steer at all. I have been trying to work out a front fork brace to tighten up the forks as the triple trees are very weak allowing the forks to flex. I think the only way is to install a heavy made front mudguard or wait for someone to make a brace that incorporates the front guard

Hog the bkrider steering damper connects from the triple tree to the front down tubes , so i think im going to get both . Then that would stiffen the triple tree and the downtubes would be the ancore if braced also . thanks Jake

Hey Jake318 let us know how the steering damper works out. Also check out the steering head bearings they might need to be torqued up a bit as mine came loss on a massive pot hole seating them better than the factory could do ? The 1 1/2 inch stem nut was very lose and only needed re torqued to 60 ft lb for the swing test.

Hog my 98 RK has a ...curved... plate under the triple tree impeading the dampers anchore to the frame . So im going to have to do do some homework to see if anouther years RK plate that is flat will fit . Also the TRI GLIDE Braces normal mounting spot has the brake resevior hooked there . The 98 RK seems to be thr read headed stepchild of RK models . Thanks for the info on the steering head ... One way or anouther im bracing this frame up. Ill keep everyne posted on results . Thanks Jake

You have some other problem with your bike. No brace will help you. Try using your front brake. The curved plate you are talking about is an air baffle. It is next to worthless. The TriGlide damper will not work either. I looked at one today. It has a mounting lug welded to the frame down tube and also has a bracket mounted to the front head.

Identify the problem before you start throwing parts at the bike.

I tend to agree with beemervet, there is something else going on. I spent a lot of time on a 1997 RK (basically the same bike) and never experienced this.

Can you describe it more? The front end shakes when you hit the back brake? Hard to imagine.

Overall a steering damper with the 131 might be a good idea, even my 09 gets cranky over bumps at full noise as the front wheel comes off the ground she throws the bars around.

Guys I was thinking the same thing this weekend . People riding behind me said they can see the rear wheel flexing side to side as I give it power off the corners. So Im going to replace the swingarm/motor mount ect bushings with polyurathane . It has 30k on it now so maybe they are worn also . As far as the shimmy . King if you hit JUST the back brake to stop from say 50 MPH , the front shakes . Ive actually now incorporated the rear flex into my riding style , Hanging off the bike yet keeping it upright more and giving it MORE throttle . This semi flattrack routine steeers the rear wheel around the corner . ( I used to race a turbocharged GPZ1100 wera unlimited class , light tube frame motor way overpowered chassis .+flexy flyer =no fun ) Im not trying to race thats what the BUELL is for . But 70mph shouldnt be a problem and who wants to flattrack a bike on a relaxing cruise ... PS thanks for the tri glide info . I did purchace the damper , touring rear link, new bushings and progressive 412? air suspension so hopefully I can get the bike handing fairly well . Thanks Jake
