Default Heel/Toe Shifter Removal. What's The Trick?

Hey guys. Got some new boots and I need to raise the toe shifter for clearance. Problem is, after loosening the bolts, with some leverage from a screw driver, the outter lever did move but, very slightly. I didn't want to slip or screw things up. Any tricks or tips? Thanks!

Take the bolt all the way out, it should come off then.

The shaft for the levers is splined. You have completely remove the bold and slide the shift levers off. Rotate them up 1 or 2 splines, slide them back on and check the fit. Then reinstall the bolts.

You have to take the bolts completely out of the levers as there is a cut out in the shaft that the bolts ride in. Then the levers simply slide off the shaft splines.

Practice using the heel shifter, then you won't have to be concerned with the toe of your boots fitting under the shifter.

remove the bolt and take a big strait blade screwdriver and gently tap the blade into the slot behind where the bolt goes in. This spreads the metal alittle and it will slide right off. Move it up as stated before or remove it all together. I have soos floorboard extentions and removed mine altogether and cut a spacer out of auto fuel line and moved my front shifter out to where the rear one used to be. Its way more comfortable that way.Ride safe.Rick

Thanks for the replies. I'll try taking the bolts completely out and see how that goes.

You need the Harley tool 97-09887-0 which only costs about $89.76. It's a one time use tool. Place your bike on a floor lift and disconnect the battery for safety. Drain all fuel from the fuel tank and remove the heads and cylinders to provide clearance to work.
Or you can just do it the way these other guys suggested. You can make minor adustments at the shift linkage as well. Harley tool 92-98801-1 is required for this but I think it's out of production, so you will have to improvise.
