see, thats the problem right there. all these people on the forum can't even agree on what you're having done. gotta be that the 2 different mechs are not on the same page.

also, its not 'shame on hd', it would be shame on the dealer (if shame needs to be on anyone).... the moco really doesn't have much to do with this situation.

Something's not right with this story. I've put chrome housings on myself and its a pain in the a-hole. Only an idiot would charge only $25.00 to do it. Everyone is really anxious to bash. By the way, the author that's a good communicator needs to learn to spell or use spell checker.

I've done the chrome switch housings on many scoots...No way I would charge only 25 bucks!

I usually don't charge anything for my friends, but if I was an indy who had to meet overhead and make a living, I'd charge maybe 150 bucks.

What a shame that many of us are so loyal to HD and they try to rape us like that.
The REAL shame is that you would even ask a dealer to do that job in the first place.

Remember, it's not Harley that is raping you, it's the dealers. Harley makes the bikes and distributes. It pretty much ends up the dealer how they steal from people. Oil changes for 100.00, etc. They need to bill for the job and not the hours, especially when they lie about the true time involved. Getting totally out of hand.

I changed the switch caps to chrome myself on my bike and a few months later, I changed the switch housings. To me, the work was the same for both tasks. I know I should have done it at the same time! But I wouldn't do it for $25. It took me a couple of hours to read the instructions and do the work.

So I agree with the other posters here that there is a communication problem with the OP.

$25 would probably be a reasonable cost to put covers on top of the switches. But I wouldn't trust someone who would charge me so little to touch my bike !

In all the time it is taking us to understand whether you meant the buttons or the housings, you could have done the job yourself and have been spared the "rape" by your dealer.

I feel your pain with the ridiculous labor charges these dealers try to stick us with but I wouldn't go blame Harleyfor this. The dealers are independantly owned and they set their own prices; Harley doesn't set labor prices for the dealers. Three different dealers by me have 3 different labor prices per hour ranging from $75 - $90. And they all stick their customers for every last minute charged. Hate dealing with these service dept's so I try to do as much work myself.
