Default New HD driver's backrest for 09's is junk.

I was at the dealer today and I've been using the dvr bkrest that came off my 06 Roadking on my 09 Ultra and I was considering buying the bkrest for the 09 touring. After taking a good close look at it, this is the biggest piece of Chinese made garbage I've ever seen and I can't believe HD wants its customers to pay $200.00 for this piece of crap. I am interested in a good after market driver backrest that will fit with my stock or tallboy seat, Yeah, I know the two seats are crap too. So, any sugestions for an aftermarket backrest. I do find the RK bkrest from 06 to be adaquate and better than the new ones but still cheap built.

Cant help you with your selection other than selling your HD seats and possibly get a Corbin, Mustang, or C&C. However, you are correct about the '09 backrest. Our customers HATE it compared to previous years. What was HD thinking?

Give this company a try http://www.utpr.com/

My HD back rest was included in my deal. When I get a new one it will be with this company. This one can be adjusted backwards and forwards.

PS----a few months ago he was working on the mounting bracket for the 09's. They should be done by now I am almost sure.

I'm not sure what your talking about. the manual rider backrest that I have from HD works great. I can adjust it up and down about 3-4 inches. there is a set screw in the back that pushes the pad forward or you can leave it back about 2 inches. I can make this thing fit my very particular always sore back.
BTW when you adjust it up it goes slightly forward about 1 inch per setting. there are three up positions...
Why bitch so loudly go get somehting else. or learn the adjustments and get the right fit for what HD supplies.

You don't seem to understand, I am going to get something else, that's why I posted about it. As far as learning the adjustments, if I had purchased this bkrest, it would have been the 3rd HD backrest I've had and they have all been crap because they are all built with a metal bracket pop riveted to a thin plastic piece of junk back brace. I know because I had the metal bracket bust all the way thru the plastic backing and after HD would not make it good, I took the opportunity to tear it completely apart to inspect it and could not believe what I had paid good money for. You completely missed the point of the post. It had nothing to do with the adjustments or fit, its the quality for the money. 200 bucks for pop riveted plastic. You'll learn soon enough grasshopper, what HD supplies is not always good for the customer as what's good for HD. Otherwise, there would be no need for such a large aftermarket industry.

Thanks for the info, bksmokey. I took a look at Utopia's web site, looks like just what I am looking for, an all metal pan, metal brackets and mounting bars with metal bolts and all for less the the HD backrest. I fired off an e-mail to check to see if they have the mounting bracket for 09 ready yet.

I agree with you. I would also say it may not be as cool looking as some , but it does it's job in my book.
