Default Polk DB521 speakers

Hey all:

Is anyone using the Polk db521 speaker in the Ultra fairing?

I noticed that the center mounted tweeter sticks out from the cone, not flush. How, if at all, does this affect mounting grills over the speakers in the fairing?

Also, how is the sound quality.

Thanks,

I have not heard the Polk's but JL Audio's sound really good at volume and won't break the bank.

Default watch ohm rating

the old radios were 4 ohm which is the standard for most car radios. I had jl 's in my 2003 and they wouldnt distort no matter how high I cranked them. the new harmon kardon is a 2 ohm system and I have read in here they will throw codes saying the speakers are blown when 4 ohm are used on the new system. kind of limits you to what you can do . probably whyt they used a 2 ohm system

Yea, your gonna want an amp with pretty much any speaker upgrade, just sticking some new 2 ohm's in there won't improve much.

correct; without an amp the improvement will be minimal at best

I had the Polks in my 2001 Glide and I pulled them before I sold it and mounted them in my '08 Road Glide. I didn't like their performance with the Harmon radio. Being 4 ohms, they put out less volume than the stock speakers with no real improvement in sound quality. I pulled them out and replaced them with a set of Infinity Kappa's. 2 ohm and very efficient. Much better sound for about $60.
Oh, and the radio never threw a code when the Polks were installed.

I used the same speakers (2 ohm Kappa's), big improvement to my ears. Got 'em new off Ebay for $50 shipped.
