I have been searching several topics and noticed &nbsp\\; in a lot of the threads what does it mean and why is it there.

Those threads are from awhile back. The forum had a glitch (bug) in it and now they changed over to new software and all is good again. (Thank Goodness)

Things got so bad for a while that you couldn't do a post of any length without all these slashes taking over the post. It went on for weeks, and a fair number of people left the forum in frustration.

OH GOD, when I saw this thread I skipped a beat
Yes it was from a while back
You would type a LONG thread, click submit, and BAM it vanished
You gussed, screamed

I have to stop now, it was a rough place but we made it through

It was as others said a glitch in the forum software, but as to what it means it is HTML (HyperText Markup Language) for a Non-breaking space.
