16"s should be fine for your size. I'm 6'0 and have 16's; however, would of been fine with 18's aswell.

Go with Wild 1 Chubby's. You can internally wire them and then hand controls fit like a glove. I have 12.5" and my hands sit at shoulder height which is still comfortable on long rides. If your hands get above your shoulders you will lose a little blood flow to your hands causing tingling and arm fatigue. I will say that apes are very comfortable contrary to popular belief. Especially when riding in the wind because you can lean back and lock your arms and the wind can't blow you back anymore than you already are because your arms are locked out. I love them and would never have anything else. Oh I'm 6' tall. So if you are 5'11" and want to go on rides around 100 miles or more I wouldn't go over 14". Just my opinion.

Everyone seems to be judging the height of the bars by the height of the rider but the type of seat matters a LOT too!
You'll have to find out which bars go best with your seat as well as your height.

You are definitely right about that. I have the low slung Brawler solo seat which does move you down some. When I put my stock 2 up seat on it brings me up to where my hands are just under shoulder height. Good post.

12.5" Apes, Sundowner seat and a rider adjustable backrest, the 3 best things I've put on. No more back/shoulder or butt ache.

Are you speaking of experience, or is this just what you've heard somewhere else? Did you put taller bars on your bike and then go with shorter? Because I find 16 inch bars very comfortable on longer rides, and I'm 5'10".
