Mind you I only have 1 tank so far, but I was surprised mileage went up at all, not down with the extra drag?? I should also add that I always travel secondary roads at about 50 to 60 miles per hour.
If you add things that eliminate turbulence and smooth the airflow, like fork baffles and air deflectors, you should get a positive effect on overall drag.

Today's ride, on my 09 UC with a 103" Stage III, riding backroads...average speed 42mph (per my GPS), I got 48.1 mpg...

Normal riding (combined city/hwy), my bike gets around 43mpg

Crusher, I believe it. Rode with some friends to S.Carolina last week. Thought I was doing real good at 45 MPG until we checked by buddy's 09' SE Road Glide and he was getting 50 MPG. We weren't running easy either.

'07 flhtc, SE air cleaner w/ K&N filter, PCIII, SE slip-on's, dyno tune at Sound Harley in Smokey Point WA= 51.3 mpg @ 60-65 mph on the slab. That's at sea level, one-up and no heavy handed throttle action....neener neener!

I've been averaging 48-50 regularly with my new 09 ultra, BUT we can still buy Chevron gasoline without ethanol. When I have to use Ethanol blended gas, subtract 6 MPG!

Made a trip from the coast to New Braunfels last week and checked mileage. 42.7 on the way up running 70 at 2500rpm. Slight tail wind

On the way home running 75 at 2800 rpm and a head wind, got the ole fuel light. Didn't bother filling up that night. The next morning 5.25 gallons or 32.4 mpg.

With tour pak

I've found that riding like hell up steep hills and then coasting down tother-side in neutral with the motor shut down improves gas mileage. Truckers get a little pissed and their engine braking IS irritat'n but my wife and I have used this technique effectively .................. the other trick we use when faced with headwinds is to lay as flat as possible over the tank. Both techniques used together can get your gas mileage up to 55 MPG. Course depending on the day's riding condition it can lead to some tension later in the motel room/ campsite ............. but so far my needs remain satisfied in that respect.

Smile 50 mpg

I made a round trip ride from Houston, Texas to Bigfork Montana last year on my 2007 FLHTC. Got over 49 mpg on the way up and over 48 mpg on the way back. Driving around town, I get about 42 mpg.
