stage one download...mileage SUCKS!
#42
My MPG sucks when i run Interstate...when i say sucks i mean low 40's...I use to get close to 50 MPG if i ran 60 on a long haul on side highways but since the changed my download for a problem i was having i only get about 45 MPG on long hauls....Hey as long as it's over 40 MPG i am happy. Getting ready to put stage I breather and another download to get a bit more power.

Hey WiredWilly, in you Bike picture...Did you bike take a **** or was it just happy to see you??? LOL.

I wish I could see 40+ mpg. I average 34-36. get on the interstate 75-85 and at 150 miles the lite is on. pisses brothers off cuz they do not need gas yet. But after doing the cams the milage increased to about 39 if I stay out of it.

Dan1551,
I think you may have things backwards. Typically, the Stage1 download (as well as after market ECU's) will help you make the engine run a little richer and therefore COOLER. A COOLER engine runs far more efficiently. HOWEVER, the extra fuel (along with decreasing mpg) also increases exhaust emissions which is why HD makes their bikes run so lean from the factory. For me, I'm satisfied with the factory setting because I spend most of my time on the expressway, so cooling isn't much of a problem.

So I'd find it safe to say the problem is not the D/L....

Did a 98" Millenium cylinder job on mine, along with woods gear drive cams, S&S gear drive, GMR head work, Wiseco moly pistons 10.5:1. Went up one tooth on the front primary sprocket and put in a 6 sp OD gear set. Has a SE air cleaner and V&H duals with fishtails. The PC III had the map from before the above work, which was way TOO lean after the engine build. Had to add NOS octane boost to make it rideable, but got 44-48 mpg at that time. Finally got around to getting it on the dyno and custom mapping the PC. Adjusting the AF required adding a lot of fuel at all throttle positions at all RPM ranges. Result was that the bike runs superb, and has a very wide, flat torque curve (108 ft lbs), but fuel economy took a big hit, averaging 30-33 mpg.

hey guys look....i really appreciate your help but its like this....im 50 years old and dont give two hoots about revving my engine to hear it....i dont do burn outs...i dont see how fast i can go from 0 to 60.....i do the speed limit and get where im going. i dont put anymore wrist in now that i did last month.
I get "only" 30 mpg on my commute running from stoplight to stop sign. But I didn't buy a Harley to bitch about the mileage.
