Cut mine to 14" with wire cutters (cut from the lower end, which goes in the fitting, don't cut off the ball end!). The little college jazz station that I like is still crystal clear when I'm completely out in the boonies.

Cut mine down also with no reception loss at all except weather band isn't as good but still good enough for me. The whip was alway's getting in my way. If you get the detachable passenger bacrest with the luggage rack it's still in the way.

I cut mine down to 10" on a RG with a luggage rack & it works great, even the weather station.

I cut about 12 inches off the original length. I may do more, but it doesn't bother me right now.

I used a Tune Trapper antenna, no probs here and you get rid of that crappy looking antenna all together. Much better look and easy to install.

I made a holder for the ball end, sort of like a gutter clip. Some of you older guys and leos might know what I mean. They used to use them back when police cruisers had big antennas. It now arcs forward and across the seat. Only good for solo. I clip it to the tour pack for 2 up.
