Default Radio trouble

I washed my bike today, first time since getting back from Thunder Beach so she was real dirty. I was drying it off and turned to switch to acc to listen to a Cd and noticed that the LCD screen was blank, the CD plays but nothing. So tell me guys is my radio screwed up? I've washed the bike a hundred times just like I did today and have never had any trouble with it.

06 units have the original unmodified faceplate , so they are a bit more susceptible to liquid damage. If water managed to find its way into the face, it most likely settled between the LCD and PCB. Once it gets in there, there is very little air flow to dry it out, so it sits on the board and corrodes the traces, eventually causing a no display, no backlight, or no button response. If it has not come back yet...sometimes it will when it dries...it will need to be replaced. Check out these guys (www.ironcrossaudio.com) if you need a repair and dont want to deal with the dealer.

Good luck

The most obvious, (and easiest) would be to start with the fuses. Then follow the wiring up into the fairing and eventually to the radio itself. The radio on my '99 EGC stopped working & it ended up being the antenna wire & a headlamp wire smashed together inside the fairing. Eventually the vibration up there rubbed the insulation away and caused the short. Much cheaper than sending the unit in for repair, which was my first reaction. Maybe you'll get lucky & the repair can be made without removing radio & without damaging your bankroll!
Good luck.

Good thought on the fuse Truxpin, but consider this before pulling fuses. The CD plays. If it was the fuse, he would not only have no backlight, but no function at all
