Besides unit will stay on if I push a screen button for it to stay on when I turn the bike off or in 30seconds it will turn off.
Yup, my 550 works like that in my car and I must've pushed the stay-on button about 10,000 times during a recent 2 week road trip

Shrug.....
I don't plan on shutting off my bike 10k times or even 100 or 50 to sit there and look at the gps. I don't see what you are getting at... or why.

I did change the splash screen to a nice HD logo... in flames

I need to get a mico SD card for it.. 8gig. So I can put some pics and mp3s on it. Not sure what brand is good for it.

May I ask, what unit did the 660 replace, waterproof/motorcycle friendly/glove buttons/mp3 player, etc.? Is that the 550, or some other model?

If a big enough price difference, I might consider the previous model, if I can find the right deal on one. Any ideas?

Coz the 660s are like $600-$700 right? What do you think you could pick up the older model for, now or in the near future?

As far as Garmin, they are the best. I have the older of the 660 models and it has everything that I need. I love the bluetooth and FM transmitter. No wire to hook up. Once you use bluetooth it even displays the caller ID on the gps. I love it.

Can you tell us more about the "extra" wire for power this from the headlights on the Ultra's?

I purchased a harness from cyclegadgets.com that run the 550 off of the cigarette lighter and through to the AUX outlet, thus bike sound system controls it.

BTW, for the XM radio is worth $10 per month when you spend hundreds of miles driving out in the country where the only stations you can pick up are local country. With my Hogtunes speaker and amp installed I can even listen to talk radio or the news if I want to. Solitude is great up to a point...then I gotta have some tunes or news Here's link to installation

I just had the 550 installed with the faring mount on my "02 ultra. The mound is clean with only one wire running over to the aux jack. Get XM through the headset along with navigation commands. I also have XM traffic/weather which I think will be helpful. Right now it is just telling me it is as hot as I think it is around Lake Havasu!

still someone elses playlist.... not paying for it.. my mp3 player an ipod plays what i want when i want it...

the extra power/ground off the headlamp wiring loom is a good place to wire it up for power....was a 15min job..or less

the 660 did not replace anything on my bike... nor do i think garmin will discontinue the 550 for the 660.... maybe tho. the 550 is still more money than the 660... ama provides a discount. I think you wil be waiting a long time for any kind of price drop on Garmin units, except for maybe discontinued models.
