I finally got two harley headsets installed in helmets for an up coming trip in june. There is a hissing background noise that seems to be there all the time when plugged into the bikes intercom ports. Any ideas on how to get rid of this ?

Is this while playing music / listening to the stero or not?

I had a similar problem listening to MP3 player through the Aux port, but that was down to the a poor 3.5mm jack connector.

There are numerous causes for the hissing, all I can say is that when all my connections are good then the sound is clear and there is no hissing, so certainly worth pursuing
