Default 16 rear 18 front on 08 RG

When the front tire wears out I am thinking about getting a chrome exchange on the stock wheels. I would like to get the same 16" 9 spoke chromed for the rear and in the front do a 09 chrome 18".
Will the stock 18" front work on a 2008 road glide? What would I need to change, bearings, will the front fender be ok, will it bring the front fender closer to the tire?
I would like to get about the same size tire in width and sidewall heigth as the stock 16"?
I like the fat look and lots of meat on the tire.

If I decided to go with a 21" is there anyway to get a fat tire for a 21", I do not like the skinny front tire look. Even if I could I bet there would be problems with the fender fitting and hitting under the fairing.

Thanks,
Greg

The 18" wheel with a 130 or 14 /70 tire will work just fine as the overall diameter will be within an eight of an inch or so. 21x3 rims are available and you could run a 120 tire, bit I'm not sure on the diameter. You'll have to modify or replace the fender. Check tire mfg. websites for the specs.

my 21 bolted right on...

as far as if the 09 will fit, the 08 has a 25mm bearing... as long as the bearing is the same...

I have a front wheel that is 21x3.5, tight 18s from Pro One.

The only mod I had to make was to enlarge the rear fender mounting holes with a 3/4 inch bit to allow me to tilt the fender slightly to the rear for the wheel clearance.

I want to go with the 18" front so I do not have to go with a lower profile tire so I am hoping to do the 18" and get a tire that will fit the fender like a 21" with a low profile and just have to modify the rear mounting holes for the fender. This way I would still have a tall, wide tire, bigger rim and take up the gap in the front fender.

I would just need to know what max size tire I could put on the 18" and still fit with just make the rear mounting holes in the fender bigger and rocking the fender up.

Thanking about go ahead and doing this mod now just to make the fender closer to the tire?

Why don't you give Hogpro or Pro1 a call. They put the wheels on in thier shops all the time and can give you good, tested advice.

Thinking a little more about this...can I do a stock 18" 2009 rear on a 2008 with a more narrow tire? I know it is tight in width back there allready but this way I could just exchange my 08 16" for the 09 18" and keep the same heigth of the bike instead of the 18" up front and the 16" in the back which would make the front higher.....

Oh what to do.

All of these thoughts have been rolling around in my head for awhile now also......

1) The OE front tire is 17" not 18" unless there is something I dont know about
2) You can run an 18" wheel and tire that is the same overall diameter as the factory 16" in order to keep your height the same, but this will not close up the fender gap
3) I would also like to know about running an 09 rear wheel on an 08 bike as the rubber vibration compensator dealie is in the wheel instead of the rear sprocket which would clean things up.

Hope this helps

You are right, it is a 17"...was looking at specs of the SERG.

So the gap is close to 1" so it would seem if you run the same size tire as stock but a 17" it should take up 1/2" of the fender gap.

I guess I would like to run a little taller 17" tire on the front so the diameter would be about the same as the guys that are running 21" rims with low profile tires that way most of the gap would be gone.

And if the 09 18" rear would work on an 08 with a skinner tire.
