Default Easy Clutch

I replaced my cables yesterday with Barnett stainless steel. After I finished I wondered if I should have installed the HD easy clutch kit since I had the clutch release cover off. For those that have installed it, is it worthwhile? It would be easy to go back in and add now that I know what I'm dealing with. Sure wish my Rineharts had a little dip that dropped below the cover!

Absolutely worth it Tater. Go to the dealership and squeeze a clutch on a new one. That's about what yours will feel like with the kit.

I put the kit on my old Low Rider. I liked the easy effort of the clutch. It made feathering the clutch much easier. But, I did not like the slippage I was feeling under heavy acceleration. My suspicions were confirmed by checking for excess clutch material after 5,000 miles of use. I still kept the ramp and ball part of the kit on the bike. But I went back to the oem spring. A harder pull. But still better than stock and no more slippage.

Is there more to the kit than new ramp/ball and spring? What would cause the clutch slippage?

Clutch diaphram spring. If I remember right, you'll need to remove the primary cover to get at it. It's just a fraction too big to get through the inspection cover.

The reduced effort clutch kit has a lighter tension diaphragm spring than the oem on pre 06 bikes. That's where the potential for increased slippage comes from. Don't get me wrong. There is always clutch slippage. I just didn't like the added slippage though. In addition to decreased clutch pack life, it made engagement feel too soft for me. YMMV.

I just read elsewhere that increased clutch wear is a drawback of the reduced effort kit. I sure don't want that, so thanks much for the heads up.

Anyone know if the White Bros. kit has the same issue?

The HD reduced effort clutch kit is not available for 97. Go with a White Bros. Lite Pull Clutch Kit, works on 87-and up

White Brothers Light Shift Clutch Kit

The Light Shift Clutch kit reduces the manual effort required to pull the lever by 30%. It reduces rider fatigue and offers smoother, easier clutch action. The Light Shift Clutch kit fits inside the transmission’s side cover and extends the clutch operating mechanism for improved leverage. The Light Shift Clutch kit installs in under 30 minutes (easy as replacing a clutch cable) and includes complete instructions. Clutch life is unaffected with this product. Made in USA.

Fits: all '87-'99 Evo Big Twin (ex. FXR), all '99-'06 Twin Cam (ex. '06 Dyna), all '86-'90 XL.

I installed the HD kit. You dont have to put the lighter clutch srping in either. Just the ramp alone reduced the effort significantly. You will need a honkin' snap ring tool.
