Default Vanishing Rush Baffle Packing??????

My 2.5" original Rush/Epiflex baffles were just getting a little too loud after three years. And I'm planning a long road trip soon and don't want to wear earplugs.

Plus the OL said she would not hop on the scoot (or anything else ) unless it was quieter.

So today, I installed Jamie's (FuelMoto) customized baffles. A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Wicked pissa.

Even with the 1.75" setup, they are plenty loud and NOT obnoxious at all. VERY NICE COMBINATION and MAP. Few more horses now too. Good deep mellow sound. PERFECTION.

But upon removing my old 2.5" baffles, what was very weird, was the left baffle had ALL the original Rush packing even with the masking tape strips.

The right one (throttle side) had absolutely NOTHING on it - that is correct - not even a freaking a trace of any packing or tape.

NAKED and BARE *** as could be. 100% metal. WTF????????

I know 80 to 90% of the exhaust goes out the right, but where did that packing go??? Vaporized??? Burnt to a crisp???

Anyone else ever experience this disappearing packing?????

Will Jamie's special packing and clear tape prevent that from happening???????? His setup does send more exhaust gases out the right side.

Thanks.

Dave H.

This is completely common with the Rush packing and is due to the design of the stock headpipe. You will not have this issue with the Silent Sport packing on our baffles or Jackpot mufflers.

I'm very surprised no one else commented on the case of "the missing packing".

Freaked me out for sure.

THANKS Jamie for responding.

This has had to have happened to others.

Its not uncommon for all the packing to burn out. It actually happen rather quickly, if you listen close you can tell. Its all smooth and quiet when new and over the next few months it get just slightly raspy, and slightly louder. Some dont notice since it is just a little at a time. ALL mufflers with packing material will eventually need to be repacked. If you ride alot I'd check it once a year.
Have a good trip

Lost all the packing in right rush 2.0 pipe in 2k miles. I just removed the packing all together. Not worth the trouble to repack.

This is interesting. Do anyone run the baffles with the Silent Sport packing? If so how is the sound?

08:

I have been an AVID fan of the 2.5" baffles for FOUR years (25,000 miles). Apparently from this thread, without packing.

Last week I went from the 2.5" baffles on both sides to Jamie's modified 1.75"/2.0" with Silent Sport packing.

I was expecting a HUGE change in sound. DID NOT HAPPEN.

These sound just as GREAT - just missing that annoying high frequency "metal crack".

Deep - mellow - strong. Not really as quiet as I was expecting. Just right.

And the packing ain't going no where

Highly recommend. Dave H.

I bought a set of jamies dyno tuned baffels.
Just wondering what are the silent baffels?
