I'm looking for just that, books about riding that make me feel like I'm on the road with the author, or how to's, packing procedures or just allround great books. I'm not looking for mystical creatures, love stories or even inspirational feel good tales of heroism (not this go round). Just great books about the Journey.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. If you could give a quick synopsis that would be great. Maybe everyone can find a new piece of literature from this post.

Thanks,
Fatguy
I read The Old Man and the Harley: A Last Ride Through Our Fathers' America

It follows the history of a well-worn Harley-Davidson VL Big Twin and a true story of the owners of it.

I liked "Investment Biker" by Jim Rodgers. He rode around the world with his girlfriend and checked into investing in our countries. You may want to flip thru some of the economic stuf but the story is very good. I just saw their bikes in the Barber MotoSports museum in AL a couple of weeks ago.

Also, I highly recommend "Proficient Motorcycling: The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well" by David L. Hough and "More Proficient Motorcycling: Mastering the Ride" . Excellent books.

and +1 on "Under and Alone"

It has already been listed, but Leanings by Peter Egan is a great read, there is also a Leanings II out as well. Both I highly recommend.

Another book is "Rebuilding the Indian" by Fred Haefele which is memoir about a guy who restores a 50's Indian Chief which involves searching for abandoned machines, negotiating for old parts, purchasing replacement parts when originals and the people he meets along the way.

Homebrew - I'd much rather read the book in your avatar. Do you have it in brail??

I've got the Dead in 5 Heartbeats book, just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

+1 for Leanings by Peter Egan. I bought this book last year (from Amazon). It is a collection of short stories, which were so fascinating, I just couldn't put the book down. I'd even go so far as to say that I guarantee you'll enjoy this one!

Two Wheeled Thunder by William Campbell Gault. I first read this book when I was 8 years old
(from the book club in grade school) Mr. Gault (RIP) has written a lot of gearhead books. Threw out my original dog eared copy in a fit of anger after I sold my FXWG back in '89 then searched the 'net and bought a used hardcover version years later which I still have. I think I've read this book 200 times and will continue to do so, takes me back if you know what I mean.
