I had an old tank bag with a map pocket, but alas after many trips it died, so I'm ordering a new one for an upcoming trip to Alaska this June, and would like to see if anyone has this one.

I like having a map in front of me when I'm in unfamiliar country, and am going to Alaska in June, which will all be unfamiliar to me. In addition, there's a waterproof place to put my license, wallet, and camera with immediate accessability for wildlife photos.

The one I'm buying is the MTM-1 at the bottom of the page. I ride an '06 FLHTCI, and have checked the fit of the tunnel, which is OK. I'm interested if anyone has one of these and what you think:

1. Does it come too far back onto the seat?
2. Is the magnetic mounting system secure?
3. Is it truly waterproof like they say it is?
4. Does the map stay dry?

I'd appreciate any input from the smartest group of bikers in the world- the H-D Forum people.

 

I cant help with that particular bag. My experience was that the paint was seriously compromised due to abrasion when I had one mounted on a previous bike.

never used one on my glide yet but used one when i had a night rod special, just made sure the air box cover was clean and put a piece of rubber web cut to shape underneath tank bag. not a mark on the paint and never moved even at 3 figure speeds. oh and i used the bag fully extended not just the map pocket.
