Mine only comes on when I plug my Zumo GPS into it for audio directions. Don't ever see it otherwise.

Maybe the device has to be plugged in and turned on?

If a device is plugged in (i-pod, etc..) and you still don't have any aux capability, your aux plug most likley has a bad solder connection to the main board. When a unit is produced, the board goes through a solder bath to get all the components soldered to the board. There are potential issues related to the solder joints at the far edges of the board because the edge tends to shed heat faster and create a cold (weak) solder joint. This is usually not an issue, but because the aux plug experiences a little stress every time you insert a plug, if the solder joints are weak, the will eventually give. When we do repairs on these units, all those joints are inspected and reworked if necessary by hand to ensure a much more robust solder connection. Pretty simple and inexpensive repair.
