Good for you! I like to wrench on my bike (within my abilities) and I have been put off by the dealers charging high prices for everything. I understand that they have to make a profit but I see the attitude that 'we are the only game in town for service' and we will charge the price and that's it.
Check around for a good independent and get to know them for when something arises that may be a bit much to tackle (or is a pain in the a$$, like changing my rear tire..). A lot of indy shops want the business and want repeat business and word of mouth and customer satisfaction is a great motivator for good service.

Good for you doing your own preventative maintenance! Glad to hear you also purchased a quality jack to boot. I let the dealer do the 1,000 mile & 5,000 mile service plus Stage 1 & SERT service.
I purchased a Service Manual, Electrical and Parts Manual and discovered basically all I was getting from dealer was fluid changes plus filter for my dollars (other than SERT/DYNO early on). Purchased a quality jack and turned to along with a few more tools to the war chest and started doing it all myself. I also have the 5yr extended warranty.
Amazing the savings I'm getting plus getting to know my bike. Taking the wheels off this spring with ABS was a breeze! Had an indy mount and balance the new tires. Saved almost $300 doing it all myself.
If you have the right tools, follow the manual, motivation & incentive I believe you'll be fine and save a considerable amount of change over the years.
