Ape Swap on my RK - WO502 HELP
I am getting ready to swap my factory bar on my '05 Road King Custom for a set of Wild One Chubby WO502 Bars - 12.5 Apes.
I know a lot of folks have made this swap, so if anyone could direct me to the cables (and any other parts) I will need, it would be a big help. Suggestions on brands or vendors for the best prices/service would also be helpful.
I am open to other brands of bars if there is something out there of good quality for a better price point.
Thanks

first and foremost, learn to use the search button. there are tons of info here on most topics and certainly on this specific issue. I myself have written several posts on this and it gets old rewriting the same thing.
the best way to calc the length of cables you need, IMHO, is to mount the new bars to your bike and then measure the distance between points using a tape measure. a piece of string also works very well. whatever you use, just be sure that you follow the same path the cables will take so that there is no guesswork involved. once you have meaurements, you can:
A. call any number of cable suppliers with the measurements, and they will get you what you need.
B. compare the new measurements with your old cables and round the difference up to the nearest inch. for instance, my bars are 16's and after comparing my measurements to my old cables, I found I needed cables that were +8 - meaning 8 inches longer than stock. that's an easier way to convey to your supplier what you need.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply and the tips. I did do a pretty long search and found lots of info, but not a lot of info on exact specs. Mostly people saying "this is perfect" and "you should buy this because I love it and you will too". I don't have a lot of extra time, so I want to make sure I have all correct parts before I start on the swap. I don't want to pull the bars off and end up waiting for 2-weeks on a cable.
Also, I know a lot of folks do a good job shopping for deals, so I was hoping to use their knowledge to cut out some web shopping time for parts.
However, I totally understand your point about re-posting.

I guess if someone with the exact same bike and bars gives you cable lengths, it should work but even then, I would not want to rely on someone elses measurements or idea of what works/looks well, despite all their good intentions. different cable lengths will work for your application, it just depends on what you think looks and works right. for instance, I used +8 clutch cable and it works/looks fine, but I'll admit, if I ever take my exhaust system off again for any reason, I'm putting a +10 clutch cable in. those 2 inches would lay just the way I want it to. Also, I'm not the most experienced wrench here but I wouldn't count on doing this in one afternoon. there are always surprises that you have to deal with. again, I really think the best way for you to be sure is to take several measurements using different methods until your certain you know how you want the cables to lay and what lengths work for you.
