Progressive 440's, are they worth the $$$$$?

2008 FLHX and installed the 440 HD 13" alot better ride over the stock air shocks, alot better ride.No more fine tuning air pressure for that bottoming out harsh ride that those HD air shocks are noted for.Secondly the 440's box makes a prefect storage area for those great HD air shocks which are on my shelf collecting dust at this very moment.

I had a set of 440's on my last RG and thought they were "ok".
The ride was marginally better than stock, but nothing special. The biggest issue I had with them was the fact that they seemed have little to no rebound dampening. As a result, any time I rode over a rise in the road where the suspension would raise (rather than compress), the shocks would "top out" (opposite of bottom out) with a LOUD & solid BANG.
I went close to 40k miles on my current RG w/stock shocks & it was superior to the 440's on my old bike. I recently got a set of Penske's. With them..... the improvement is HUGE!!!

I've had 2 sets of 440's. On this '09 flhx and on my '05 SEEG. Both HD both 11.5.
Wouldn't do it again. They top out too often and I've tried every adjustment possible. Thus, if I was going to stay with Progressive for a future bike...I'd go with the 412's and save 200 bux. I've riden the 412's on a friends '09 EGS and it rides EXACTLY like mine with 440's.
It's all a matter of preference and subjectiveness, but for me they're not worth the extra over the 412's.

I had 440's on a Dyna, not a big improvement over stock, I sold 'em and was glad to see them go. I found them to be harsh, non-compliant and "primitive" I recently put on YSS Z series 366TRL, about $150.00+ or so more than 440's, a VERY good middle of the road shock, (I consider 440's very low end, and Penske and Ohlins high end, although you can get middle of the road in i.e. Ohlins too) Buy a shock with as much adjustability as you can afford, preload, rebound, compression, +length(typically +10mm) and one that is sprung for your riding style, you are not going to get any shock off the shelf that is quality IMO.
