Do lowers reduce buffetting on RG?
#21
I've read on more than occassion that they should be removed in the summer to avoid engine heat issues. I was riding yesterday and put my right arm at a 90 degree angle to my torso and noticed an incredible reduction in buffeting. I'm seriously considering adding lowers but don't want any problems; it gets really hot in the Gulf South. I'm thinking about vivid black lowers on my O&B SERG.

With lowers and the Cee Bailey's screen the buffeting is quite reasonable. The amount of buffeting really seems to depend on which direction the wind is coming from. Headwinds seem to generate the most. I tried out Cee Bailey's new SERG screen last Friday and the buffeting was even less so I'll get one of those once they're released. The only problem for me is the amount of heat generated on the r/s with the lowers installed. Tried a set of Hoppe vents but that was a total waste of money. Hiway pegs have helped, though.

Great info and thanks everybody. I had hoped that the new Cee Bailey's SSC shield would alleviate the problem but a high speed run yesterday showed that it didn't. The 'helmet in a paint shaker' feel was still very apparent (it's like a low frequency, high amplitude vibration) and very uncomfortable. Too bad cause it's a great looking shield.
I never really wanted lowers but I've gotta try something else so I think I'll order the HoggChopps.
Oh yeah, to answer a question - I wear an Arai full face helmet and it's pretty slippery in the air.
