Default 2009 exhaust broke

When I picked up the 09 king I did 1800 miles (2 weeks) and the exhaust broke off at the active valve.

Dealer fixed it, after waiting a month for a replacement from the good ol USA.

Last week a mate has his 09 SG do the same thing after 4500 miles.

These bikes are Aussies (HDI), obviously, with cat converters and active exhausts. We both think that the problem looks like metal fatigue because 2 different metals are welded together and the replacement will break again in a few months.

My bike has power duals on it now anyhow, but my mate is running the stock and is worried it is a time bomb.

Do the yank bikes have this valve? Has anyone else had the same problem?

Not to hijack but as you can see below, I was a sailor and, as good luck would have it, was able to visit Brisbane and Sidney, Australia (USS Richmond K. Turner, DLG 20), plus Sandefjord and Bergen, Norway (USS Patterson, DE 1061).

Now back to the regularly scheduled program... broken exhaust with another BTT.

I don't think my ULtra has that valve. Whatever it is, it doesn't look like something that should be in an exhaust system!

I 've never seen anything like that in my life.

Good luck with the power-duals!

If your buddy likes the stock exhaust. Have him buy a used U.S. model off of Ebay ,or maybe some one on this forum. Shouldn't be very expensive. Many people put after market systems on their rides.

There was a set of 09 Mufflers here for sale on the forum for something like $40-$50. Guy took them off of a Road Glide if I remember. That's a bargain!

Nope they don't come on the U.S. models. Only CA has the stupid cats though....The valve they have on your bike is to control how loud the exhaust is under normal operation. When you need full power and open her up the valve will open all the way, but under light loads will vary the opening to keep the db's down. Looks like they are trying to cut down on noise pollution over their. Myself and others have stock cans for sell in the classifieds section if you are interested. Just make sure they will mate up properly with your stock heads over there, not sure if they designed those differently too.
