You are exactly right. You don't get the wild vibration/shaking when your entire body is in the wind. When buffeting is at it's worst it can make it dangerous to ride - you can't see and you can't hear. Holding your body up against an 80 mph wind for several hundred miles at a time is another issue altogether - it's tiring.

Those that beak off with "You should give up biking and drive a cage." aren't providing any helpful info. They are the ones that should give up riding - they obviously have the wrong attitude.

I came off a 05 fatboy with a windshield and there is a night and day difference between them as far as wind and buffeting. My wife and I can actually hold a conversation on the street glide at 70 wereas on the fat boy we couldn't converse at any speed over 45. I did put a taller w/s and the lowers and this helped a lot over stock. I also have the adjustable wings on the lower edge of the fairing and notice a pretty big change in airflow when there open versus closed.

WOW...amazing how we get so critical when we can't understand why the person has issues with something. Walk in their shoes...try to understand their problems before you cast stones...or even before you agree with the in "+100000000000". Amazing how non-contributory we can all be at times!

Ride Safe! Mike

Just rode my new SG for the first time with a 3/4 helmet. The wind hit me right in the sunglasses. When I dipped my head an inch it went away. Fortunately I have a 8" CV recurve sitting on my bench at home. I'm sure that will solve the "buffeting" (but the stock shield sure looks cool)

It's been a week now since I took a 350 mile trip (at highway speeds) with my new '09 SG. My back and neck are still sore from all the wind buffeting. I've come from a Sporty with no windshield and I'll gladly take that bike back over the buffeting I am getting from my SG.
As soon as I get a chance (work) I will be putting an 8" shield on and hope that this buffeting will be gone.
It is so funny that when I did all my research before I bought my SG, no-one ever said that there may be an issue with buffeting what-so-ever. Now that I have 600+ miles on the bike, most people here are saying they've seen some or alot of wind buffeting....oh well.

I traded my 2006 Heritage for a 2009 Street Glide and immediately put a 9 1/2" windshield on it. I felt I had less buffeting than on my Heritage.

The buffeting with stock Street Glide windshield was too much for me.

1. Replace windshield.
2. Lowers
3. That little air damn thingy that is 20 bucks.

Problem solved.

It's nothing to worry about, and you're not making some monumental mistake by going with the batwing. Changing your windshield will solve the problem. And that's less than $50.
