I have the HD Quest and find it quite simple to use. It was my first GPS and I will use it until it breaks.

 

I have a quest2 and like it. You can find them cheap on ebay!

 

Tonight I just updated my HD conquest to the 2009 mapsource information. Conquest is the same as the quest II.
I am a little upset with Garmin right now but I will get over it.

I bought my conquest in Sept 2006. Was told by Garmin not to update until 2007. In 2007 Garmin told me to wait until 2008. In 2008 Garmin said wait until 2009 for the latest update.
Last week I called Garmin to update and they sent me the Mapsource update disc. I recieved it today and tonight I called them for help in upgrading. I got this girl who told me that the conquest and quest would not be updated in the future. Of course that made me mad. After I pressed her on that she put me on hold and when she came back on the line she said that the conquest and quest II would be able to be updated in the furture. She also told me that the conquest unit would only be able to update a state or two. Not a full upgrade. I asked her why then did I just pay her $75.00 for the up grade? She then told me that I could updated more infor through the scandisk on the device. I told her the unit did not have a scandisk. She put me on hold and when she came back she said I was right. Anyway she then checked with someone else and they told her how to have me update from the new disc and I loaded all the information to the unit. I was then told by another tech not to worry that the device used NT tech information and in the future I should be able to load new data.

I love the unit but I would look for the latest and greatest and not buy a three or four year old technology.

The Quest and Road Tech Conquest are different units I am sure. Conquest and quest II are similiar if not the same. Not sure of the complete difference between Quest and Conquest.

 

For the money you can buy a car unit like those from Garmin, Magellan and Tom-Tom that have more features. I'm trying to decide between the entry level units (as low as $59) or one with Bluetooth and MP3 capability ($150 and up). There's some decent discussions on here about different models with the Garmins probably leading the way in popularity.

For what it's worth, I found a Magellan Roadmate 1200 (3.5") for $59.95 (refurbished with factory warranty) from Tiger Direct. I just can't decide if I want to spend another $100 (maybe a little more) to move up to the systems with more features (and more POIs).

One I've also looked very closely at is the Garmin Nuvi 760. It has MP3 capability which means I can listen to audio books I download for free. There's LOTS of "classics" and public domain books available online in MP3 format, so I can "read" some of those classics I've been meaning to read while riding across the Texas panhandle.

The Nuvi 760 also has FM transmitter so you can play the stuff through your radio without a wire hookup. For me the larger screen and longer battery life may make it worth the extra $150 over the Magellan right now as well.

Also, some of the discussions on this forum have suggested that using simple plastic bags to cover the car units works pretty well.

 

I have had several GPS units, all Garmin and including the 2610, 2720, Quest, QuestII and now the Zumo 550....The Quest II is a good unit, just a little small for my old eyes...I like the Zumo best, but the 2720 is a great inexpensive unit, has text to speach ( speaks the roads) waterproof and stable on the bike...it was a good unit and I would have one again if not for the Zumo line....
