Sorry no way no how THAT IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE, it was a extended warranty for 5 years or 50,000 miles, I recieved the letter on my early 2000 and asked my dealer to repair it before it messed up and he said no only on the 99's will they do that (so I thought 99's were recalled sorry I stand corrected) low and behold at 20,000 miles the bearing gave and all the shavings went through the engine oil and oil pump, bike ran great afterwards but it was always in the back of my mind wondering how bad the internals got messed up. sooo I sold the bike
So really it's not ABSOLUTELY FALSE, in fact everything I posted is correct except the mileage, which by the way was 80,000 kms, since I'm in Canada.
The bottom line remains the same though, no more free repairs for this problem from the MoCo, since everybike out there is past the time limit reguardless of the mileage, unless there was new 99's still being sold in 04' which is very unlikely.

I purchased my 99Ultra in 05 from a buddy of mine. Yes, it has the stage 2 BB kit with the 203cams and a PC2. He doesnt remember when he did the big bore kit or how many miles on it. I purchased it with 16,K miles on it and now its just shy of 30,K miles.
When should I look at the shoes or switch to a gear drive cam (Like the R&R525 or the Woods 5)?

Let's just say that you are gong to change to gear drives.
They should never let you down, provided they're installed correctly and you do regular maintenance.
Why not do them as soon as you can. It's worth it for the peace of mind.

I run a 1999 UC w/95 BB. It has 72000 miles on it, replaced the original tensioners & bearings @ 50000 miles. I upgraded to the Timken bearings instead of the INA's that were in it. The needles on the Timkens where about 150% longer than the INA's. When I tore it down the tensoiners had little wear to them.

Okay, help summarize what I whould do.

When talking with the dealer, they did not show record of doing the work "there", however could not gaurantee it had not already been done. I found out when talking to them they did the 15k service at 13500 when I bought it last summer. Before calling them I knew they had serviced it but wanted to get back on the 5000 schedule so I planned to do the 15k service. During the call the service manager did't see anything wrong with just doing an oil change, and waiting on the next service until 20k. While there I am going to get them to check out the bearings and tensioners also. Beside the bearings and tensioners, anything else on 99's to be concerned about or consider upgrading? First 15500 run on regular HD oil. I run synthetic in the Vrod and am considering going with it so I only have to keep a quart or two of the same spare oil.

If the bearings have to be changed, good time to upgrade the cam or other internal parts?

So pardon the ignorance here, but is there any way to tell if the work has been done, without paying the dealer to diagnose the bike? I gather there would be some database somewhere in HD's realm that would log all the VIN#'s that had the work done...right?...and since I'm on a roll, what are we talking $ wise to do this, under $1k, or over?

I can tell you anything you want to know about electronics and gadgets, but I never claim to know what I'm talking about when it comes to motors

There is no way except to tear it apart. Basically, if you can find out that it has been done, your good to go. If you don't find out that it was done, it may still have been done, just not under warranty and not at your local chop either and you won't know for sure til someone looks.
A few hundred should cover it.

Just confirmed with the original dealer that my scooter came from and was serviced at until I bought it that by the VIN #'s it has not had the work done. They confirmed that Harley was repairing under warranty but are no longer doing so. Highly recommended having it done and quoted it well over a grand. I was planing to do a 95" conversion or possibly the Revolution 98" conversion as soon as I scraped up the cash ( but with the economy it is taking longer to do so ) so do I ride less or not at all or do I ride and play roulette?

It's a difficult call. If you get it done, and then do a big bore , you'll want a different cam, so they'll be going back in the same place.
If you hold off, you could wind up regretting it.
Is your bike carb or EFI?

M&M EFI. Was going to change that too! Was a great tech article about an EFI change in one of the last issues of one of the bagger mags I get. Forget at this moment which mag it was.
