If you are going to do a fly and ride... should you fly to Vegas or Salt Lake City?? Any other starting points? Denver?

Depends on which half of the state you want to see. The national parks are in the east-central to southern half of the state. I'm posting a relatively simple map that shows the parks in relation to the rest of the state. Put Salt Lake City up near the large blue lake in the northern half of the state.

Find Zion National Park in the southern section. From there to Salt Lake City is about 310 miles. Las Vegas, on the other hand, is only 167 miles from Zion. There's plenty to see and do in SLC and Las Vegas, so it's all about what you want to see while here.

If you want to ride Moab (far eastern side of state near Arches) then down then it's a great ride. I'd say come in to SLC. That way you can swing through Arches/Canyon Land back to Capitol Reef, Bryce, and then south down US 89 to 9 and through Zion. To go back to SLC you can run up I-15 (which has a few 80mph zones on it) through Cedar City, Beaver, and points north.

On the other hand, you can also come into LV, ride out I-15 to St George, Hurricane (home of Zion HD) and then into the parks.

I'm starting from Denver. Day one will be through Rocky Mountain N.P., day two to Moab and will see Canyonlands/Arches, Day three to Kayenta, AZ via Natural Bridges, Moki Dugway, Valley of the Gods, Monument Valley, day four to Telluride via Canyon de Chelly and Four Corners, will spend a day in Telluride and then back to Denver via the scenic route.

Great suggestions... cheap airfares are available to all so it's a tough choice. I think for now it may be SLC.

All Beautiful places! I could spend a month in Utah,4 corners area,North Rim,Telluride and not have a dull day.Just watch where you pitch your tent.I found this nice little sandy beach on the Colorado River just outside Moab.It was dark out when I put my tent up. Woke up in the middle of the night with burning sensations all over my ugly body. Discovered I'd camped on top of a fire ant hill. Wasn't funny then.

Sounds like a good ride...but where are you from?
