Default A little back tire help!

Morning everyone!

New to HDF and was hoping to get some advise. I have a 06 RK, looking at the elite3 and would like to know how large a tire I can run on the stock rim before having to go with a new rim?

Thx

I have E-3's on my 05 now. I have a 140-90-16 on the rear and 130-85-16 on the front now with no probs. Have heard that a 160 will fit the rear with no mods. They don't make a 150 that I know of. If the 160 will fit my bike, thats whats going on next.

Welcome to HDF.

Tyres get thrashed to death on this forum, so take some time out, get a long drink and browse back through old threads. You won't have to go back very far to become an expert!

I never understand what the big deal is about being able to put on a slightly larger rear tire that most people wont be able to tell the difference anyway.

If you want a wide rear tire on a bagger just spend the money on one of the kits and get a 200 or bigger....then people will notice.

That's a good point. I wondered about that and wrote to Avon just a month ago. They replied that they considered the FL range with the MT size tyres is under-tyred in the rear and suggested using their 140 as an upgrade.

So the reason I went to a wider tyre is not for looks, but the improved load capacity. In the case of Avon Venoms, that gives an increase from 827 lbs to 908 lbs at the same pressure and effectively increases the gross vehicle weight limit by 71 lbs - at least as far as the tyres are concerned.

I doubt if anyone will be able to tell I have a bigger tyre, I have to admit. But the increased capacity is around the same weight as my 'bags and tourpack jammed full, plus a few chrome extras! The latest dressers, with a 180 rear, for an Avon Cobra, have a load capacity on the rear tyre of 1019 lbs, so by comparison a 140 gives a worthwhile increase.

Just put Avon Venoms on my 07 SG. 150 on the back with no problems. From the looks of it a 160 would be pushing it with the belt guard, but that could be modified or removed. As said above, it is not for looks it is for more contact and better load carrying.

Running the 140 Michelin without issue.
