You are one lucky S-O-B! It a wonder that you didn't go down with oil going under the bike like that.

If the motor is not hurt and you didn't wreck I would go buy a loto ticket or take a trip to Vegas.

All joking aside, I'm glad you came out O.K.

Ok so after the filter came OFF you travelled about 3600 feet - meaning that your loss of oil was more minimal for that first 2100 feet of travel. Did you go any further than the 5700' oil slick? That means is still had SOME oil in it, even maybe a quart or so. That means you're probably OK as you rode maybe 30 some seconds after the filter came off.

Let us know, we're all on the edge of our seats on this one!

Sorry to hear about that.

Like the others have said fill-er-up and go for a ride. If it's damaged you'll know it shortly.

I'm not so sure about notifying the insurance company. I have read that any contact regarding your insured assets may trigger an increase (www.clarkhoward.com).

It would suck to "notify" them, have your engine be OK, and then get your rates jacked.

just sayin'

Put another filter on, fill it up with oil, run it for about 10 minutes, then cut that filter apart without adding any metal particles into it, pull the paper filter innards apart and check for metal particles, if there's metal in there you'll see it no problem, you might save yourself a big repair bill for nothing, we do this on piston engines and turbines all the time.

Wow... that could'a been real ugly if you'd of oiled up the rear tire.

Hopefully, you caught it in time and shut it down.

I'd do a cylinder pressure & leakdown check. If they, you're probably fine. As was also mentioned, cutting open the oil filter would not hurt, but you could still have wear issues that would not show up as debris in the filter... so check both.

If all is well.... RideOn! If not.... HELLO HQ113!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck... hoping for the best for ya!
