adding an ebay - batwing fairing to my RK
#21
Several years ago I bought the fairing and instruments off a late 1980s Ultra and tried to fit them to my 1990 FLHS. Despite having most of the parts to hand, for a snip, I gave up. Eventually bought an earlier glassfibre batwing and fitted that, so my bike now looks much like hawkeye85's.
The problems that put me off were practical ones, mainly the electrics, made more difficult as my bike is an International version and the fairing I bought was off a US model. The wiring for my UK bike does not feature in the workshop manual as so few of them were built - trying to knit the two systems together was too much for this bear with little brain!
I hope that later Harleys have electrics that are easier to adapt, but there are certainly many things to take into account when attempting to fit a fully equipped fairing to an unfaired bike.
That early plastic factory fairing was not stiff enough to do as hawkeye85 has done, which is why I bought a glassfibre one.
